About Us

We are a nature-wild family, always looking for our next adventure. Alayna, the mama behind this page, received her degree in Early Childhood Development from Northern Michigan University on the shores of Lake Superior. After a few years of teaching the travel bug hit and Alayna spent a year traveling around the United States, Costa Rica, and Denmark learning more about early childhood around the world . After becoming mama to the wild, curious, and brave “A”, she brought her passion for nature, travel, and early childhood education into parenting via Nature Schooling. We are a home-schooling family who use nature to develop the whole child; socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively. We spend our weeks checking out local nature centers, hiking the the woods, and studying whatever natural phenomenon caught our eye that week. Our weekends are filled with road trips, fly fishing, and breakfasts over the campfire.

I look forward to sharing resources, tips, nature-lesson ideas, as well as feature nature-based preschools across the country. Whether you homeschool, traditional school, unschool, work, stay home…there is always a way to get closer to nature!

See you outside!
