Moosewood Nature Center in Marquette, Michigan
Our family has a special connection with the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and we try to visit at least once a year. On one of our most recent trips we were finally able to make it into Moosewood Nature Center on Presque Isle in Marquette, Michigan. We were so impressed with all their fun activities they have packed into their small space.

The nature center has live animals, including a Snapping Turtle named Shelldon. There is also a cozy reading corner with books on local animals and plants, an electric Mineral Matching Game with the rocks and minerals native to the Upper Peninsula, and even a table full of nature items and real scientific tools like a microscope for the children to explore.

Just outside the nature center is a bog walk which is a nice walk for young children and families. Every fall the nature center puts on an annual Haunted Bog walk which we hope to make it to one day soon! The nature center is open to the public every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 12pm until 4 pm and are always hoping to add hours depending on volunteer availability. If your wanting to check out this fun little treasure, it wouldn’t hurt to call ahead to check they are open. The nature center is located on Presque Isle park which has a small playground, a break wall, a beach, and a short loop you can drive/walk/bike around the island which provides many different overlooks of Lake Superior and many hiking opportunities.

While it took a minute for my little one to warm up to these guys, it was so cool to see the real size and features of theses common Upper Peninsula residents!
We cannot wait to return and explore this fun area again and hopefully get in on some of their programming. Have you ever been to MooseWood Nature Center? Let us know you experience in the comments below!
